October 19, 2009, Wolf River excursion

I took a little day trip up to the Wolf River in Langlade County yesterday (October 19). I managed to get about 5 hours of fishing in throughout the afternoon. I started at a public access off East Wolf Road just south of Lily. I had planned to fish off Wolf River Landing Road, but I ended up in the wrong location. I only realized my error when I had to hike about a quarter mile to get to the river. I fished the stretch I found there, which seemed to have some decent pocket water, but I did not have a single hit. I then moved downstream to the public access off West Hollister Road. The access there is a very beautiful spot located right on some minor rapids and pocket water. I managed to land three browns in the 10 to 11 inch range over an hour of fishing this little stretch of water. I ran out of daylight before having a chance to actually fish the Irrigation Hole. However, I did wade the area for about 20 minutes just to see what it looked like, and I did not see much productive water near the public access. I drove home down 55 through the Menominee Reservation. That is a very fun road to drive, very much like being on a roller coaster. I stopped to try eating at a Golden Corral just south of Stevens Point. For a total of $13 I was treated to pretty mediocre food. I don't recommend it.

June 2006 Quetico Trip Report

I finally reorganized and redesigned the trip report I wrote for my June 2006 Quetico canoe and fishing trip. If you are interested in the Boundary Waters and Quetico Provincial Park or just paddling and fishing in general, take a look at the report.

Inaugural Post

This will be the first of many posts. I plan to post at least once a week in each of the four subject areas listed in my welcome message. Below is a sample of the type of content you will find at the Wold Wide Web.

Trout fishing in Wisconsin

I am planning to take a short trip up to the Wolf River to fish the extended trout season in the northern streams. I fished it on October 24 of last year, a beautiful 82 degree day. Something tells me I will not be so lucky this year. I will be using this blog as a chronicle of my attempt to fish as many Wisconsin trout streams as possible. I hope to write a book about the experience using the blog as my notebook.

Libertarian and conservative U.S. politics

I consider myself to be essentially a libertarian in the political spectrum. Thus, you will get a chance to agree or disagree with me on many issues as I try to contribute to some very important debates. Currently, health care reform is one of the hot topics, and I am worried about our current road to socialism. The speed with which the Obama administration is attempting to further involve government in every aspect of our lives is troubling at least, alarming at worst.
